President Goodluck Jonathan has appointed a former Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Idris Lebo Kutigi, as the chairman of the upcoming National Conference.
So also was a former Minister of External Affairs in the regime of former military President Ibrahim Babangida, Prof. Bolaji Akinyemi, named as the Vice Chairman of the conference.
Dr. Valerie Azinge will serve as the Secretary of the National Conference committee.
A statement on Monday by the Secretary to the Federal Government, Senator Anyim Pius Anyim, confirmed this development.
Anyim said in the statement: “His Excellency, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, GCFR, President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, has approved the appointment of the Leadership of the National Conference as follows:
(i) Honourable Justice Idris Lebo Kutigi – Chairman
(ii)Prof. Bolaji Akinyemi – Vice Chairman
(iii)Dr. (Mrs.) Valerie Azinge – Secretary
“The appointees are to resume at Abuja on Wednesday, 5th March, 2014 and would be received on arrival by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.”
