Governor Theodore Orji of Abia State has said that the Commander of the Order of the Niger conferred on him by the Federal Government will spur him to contribute more to national development.
Orji said this on Tuesday during an interaction with newsmen in Umuahia, the state capital, on his return from the award ceremony held on Monday in Abuja.
He said: “I feel very happy to be honoured just like any human being will feel when he is honoured.
“This award is something that will spur me to positive actions.
“By getting this award, you have a tag on you to work harder, a tag to behave better and a tag to be more responsible.”
The governor further described the award as a call for one “to be more dogged and to sacrifice one’s life for the nation”.
Orji was one of the 313 Nigerians conferred with National Merit Awards by President Goodluck Jonathan.
The award is in recognition of his immense achievements on security issues in Abia State.
