Discrepancies trailed the N143 billion 2019 elections budget submitted for consideration by the Independent National Electoral Commission as the National Assembly Joint Panel halted the scheduled meeting on the budget abruptly.
The Chairman of the Committee, Senator Suleiman Nazif, had told newsmen after a closed door meeting on Tuesday that the Joint Panel had established a subcommittee that will look into the INEC budget for 2019 elections and meet today (Wednesday).
But the scheduled meeting could not hold as newsmen waited endlessly for the Committee.
However, a source close to the Committee informed The Eagle Online that the lawmakers were surprised on abrupt cancellations of the meeting that was meant to fine tune the Elections Budget.
The Source further informed The Eagle Online there were a lot of discrepancies in the revised budget submitted by the lawmakers for consideration as some of the projects that had nothing to do with 2019 elections were included in the budget.
According to the source: “There are lots of discrepancies and duplications in the budget submitted for consideration.
“We fixed a meeting for the deliberation on the report of the subcommittee for Wednesday, but the meeting has been rescheduled for Thursday morning.”
