The National Assembly on Tuesday adopted the provision for independent candidacy in the forthcoming general elections in 2015.
With the adoption of the provision, an independent candidate can contest as president or governor or seek to represent his or her constituent in the Senate, House of Representatives and Houses of Assemblies.
Also, the National Assembly approved autonomy for local governments in order to ensure effective service delivery and insulate them from undue counter-productive interference from state governments.
In addition, the office of Attorney-General of the Federation and Attorney General of a state were separated from the occupant of the position of Minister of Justice and Commissioner of Justice respectively.
