Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has tasked officers and men of the Nigeria Immigration Service to be selfless in the discharge of their duties in protecting the country against illegal immigrants.
Sule made the call on Tuesday when the state Comptroller of NIS, Zainab Lawal, led other officers of the command to pay a courtesy visit on the governor in Lafia.
The governor said that the role played by the service in tackling crime in the country cannot be overemphasised, hence the need for the officers to be up and doing in ensuring peace in the country.
Sule charged the comptroller and officers of the command not to relent in their efforts toward ensuring peace in the state and the country at large.
He said: “I want to commend you for the visit and to assure you of my administration’s support to the command.
“We will partner with you to ensure peace in the state. It is our dream to ensure that the kind of peace we have in Nasarawa State we should have more than that.
“Nigeria as a whole should have the same nature of peace, that is the only way we can live in peace.
“I sincerely wish you well and we will work together very closely in the interest of peace and development.”
He assured them that his administration would continue to work with the organisation and other sister security agencies to promote peace in the state.
Earlier, the NIS state Comptroller, Zainab Lawal, said that the visit was to reaffirm the organisation’s cooperation with the state government in the area of peace promotion.
She also solicited the state government’s assistance in constructing the road leading to the new Headquarters of the command along Makurdi road, Lafia.
The Comptroller reassured the governor of their continued commitment towards tackling illegal migration in the state.
