The Managing Director of the News Agency of Nigeria, Malam Ali M. Ali, has urged medical doctors to remain determined, focused, and dedicated in service to humanity.
Ali gave the advice at the graduation ceremony of the 2023 set of the Sudan International University and Hayat Medical College.
The students graduated from the Usmanu Danfodiyo University Sokoto.
The MD, who spoke on Saturday in Sokoto, urged the graduates to uphold good values and to always exhibit diligence, integrity, respect and discipline instilled in them during their studies.
Ali urged them to take their educational journey seriously as it was full of turbulence and challenges in view of the crises that erupted in Sudan in the midst of their studies.
He said: “As a parent of one of the graduates, I feel excited, proud and fulfilled as the journey that had started long a go have come to an end.
“It is a dream come true for my son, as I wanted him to study Computer Science, but he insisted on becoming a Medical Doctor.
“I recalled that my father wanted me to read medicine.
“I read Mass Communication, so the dream of my father had manifested in his grandson.
“I feel satisfied.”
Ali said the graduates have faced challenges because in their first year of study, President Umar Al-Bashir’s government in Sudan was toppled, and there was the COVID-19 and leadership crisis in Sudan.
He explained that another challenge was the value of Nigeria’s currency as they started when a US Dollar was about N250 and before finishing their studies, it rose to about N1,300.
He added: “Do not leave any stone unturned in your pursuit of success as it doesn’t come easily.
“Do not allow distractions to cut your dreams and aspirations short.
“Use the knowledge you have acquired from your teachers, stretch your wings like eagles, and soar, shine like bright stars and be relevant to the service to humanity.
“I have no doubt that the lessons you have learned in the studies and from your parents will continue to guide you through your journey in life.”
Another parent, Haruna Adiya, said the event was a memorable one in recognition of their investment and the students’ dedication.

In his valedictory speech, a graduate, Muhammad Ali, a son of the NAN boss, described the journey as challenging.
He said: “It is indicating that we have the capability for more achievements.
“To become a Medical Doctor is a call to serve humanity.”
Another graduate, Sakina Mu’azu, appreciated the sacrifices of their professors and other mentors in spite of the myriad of challenges they had encountered like the Sudanese war during their studies.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that no fewer than 64 persons graduated in the fields of Medicine, Pharmacy, Biomedical Engineering, Clinical Sciences and allied courses, among others.
