The Acting Managing Director, News Agency of Nigeria, Jide Adebayo, on Friday charged members of staff of the agency to be more dedicated to their duties in the New Year.
Adebayo gave the charge at the New Year party organised by the NAN Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists for members of the Editorial Department in the agency’s Lagos office.
He said that NAN had become an acceptable brand within the Nigerian media space as a result of its quality content and in-depth analysis of issues.
Adebayo said that the agency was, however, not unmindful of the threat posed by the emergence of the social media.
He said: “If we must sustain our level of acceptability, we must continue to improve on the level of our production and quality of stories.
“I will like to appeal to everyone to be more dedicated to their duties.”
Adebayo noted that in the face of funding challenges, every member of staff should see himself as a marketer for the organisation.
He urged members of staff to be more creative and productive to enhance the agency’s revenues.
The acting managing director prayed that 2014 would be a more fruitful year for the agency and its staff members.
In his remarks, the Executive Director, Editorial Services/Editor-in-Chief, Isaac Ighure, also urged the members of staff to brace up for the challenges ahead in 2014.
Ighure said that the management had introduced some incentives to boost the morale of workers and reward outstanding performance.
Contributing, Dele Bodunde, the Head of Lagos Office, thanked the Managing Director and the Editor-In-Chief for their encouraging words.
Bodunde also urged the members of staff to resolve to make a difference in their duties in the New Year.
The Chairman, NAN NUJ Chapel, Tayo Ikujuni, said that the forum was to thank God for His mercies in 2013 and prepare for a tasking but more prosperous 2014.
