The Acting Chairman, National Hajj Commission of Nigeria, Prof. Abdullahi Sale, on Friday held his first Executive Council meeting with the agency’s top officials.
This was contained in a statement issued on Friday to newsmen by Sanni Shafi of the Printing and Publication Unit of NAHCON.
The meeting, which was ongoing as at the time of filing this report, has in attendance the Commissioner for Planning, Research, Statistics, Information and Library Services, Prof. Abubakar A. Yagawal; Commissioner for Operations, Inspectorate and Licensing, Prince Anofi Elegushi; and Commissioner for Policy, Personnel Management and Finance, Prince Aliu AbdulRazaq.
Also in attendance was Dr. Saleh Usman Muhammad, Special Assistant (Technical) to the Acting Chairman.
In his opening remarks at the meeting, Prof. Sale gave gratitude to the Almighty for the opportunity to serve, noting with concern that evidently from the minutes of the last meeting, there are matters of urgency that needed deliberations over them.
Saleh prayed for Allah’s guidance for successful deliberations.
Recall that the immediate past NAHCON Chairman/Chief Executive Officer, Malam Jalal Ahmad Arabi, was relieved of his post following the busting of alleged misappropriation of the Federal Government’s N90 billion 2024 Hajj subsidy.

Following this, Prof Sale was immediately appointed in his place by President Bola Tinubu, but he is yet to be confirmed by the Senate.
The Eagle Online reported last week about the urgent need for the upper legislative Chamber to fast track the process of Sale’s screening and confirmation so as to kick start the 2025 Hajj operations.
