The National Food and Drug Administration and Control on Wednesday in Kano sealed off a Chinese Company producing ‘Wave Tide Mosquito coil’ for not registering.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the company, Plant Fibre Mosquito Coil, is located at 49, Maisikeli Road, Nasarawa Local Government Area of the state.
Eke Paul, the Chief Regulator and Enforcement Officer of NAFDAC in Lagos, made the disclosure while addressing newsmen shortly after closing the factory in Kano.
Paul said the agency had on September 28 directed the company to come and register with the agency, but that the management failed to show up, hence the decision to close the place.
He said the agency also found it necessary to shut the factory because the safety of its product was not guaranteed.
He said: “Since the company is not registered by NAFDAC, the safety of its products is not certain or guaranteed.
“The finished product is bearing Chinese address, while it is being produced in Nigeria.”
According to Paul, the chemicals were imported from China and the products were being labeled in Chinese language.
“They import the untreated coils and pass them through their machines to put the chemicals,” he added.
Paul, therefore, called on members of the public to stop buying and using the ‘Wave mosquito coil’ in view of the fact that the agency had yet to ascertain the safety of the chemicals used in the product.
He said all the finished products would be evacuated from the factory while the place would remain closed until the company is registered.
