France’s Gael Monfils has withdrawn from the upcoming Miami Masters.
The 31-year-old is set to miss the Miami event for the second year in a row.
World No. 42 Monfils retired hurt his round-three clash at the Indian Wells Masters.
French Pierre-Hugues Herbert was 6-2 3-1 up when Monfils retired due to a back injury. Monfils, who debuted at Miami in 2005, reached the quarter-finals at the event in 2016.
The Frenchman’s focus now turns to the upcoming clay season.
Meanwhile, German Philipp Kohlschreiber has also pulled out of Miami.
The 34-year-old is coming off a solid Indian Wells campaign – where he made the quarter-finals before he was defeated in three-sets by Juan Martin del Potro.
Kohlschreiber debuted at Miami long ago in 2005 but never made it past round-three at the event.
A place in the Miami main draw has now opened up for recent Sao Paulo runner-up Nicolas Jarry and Slovakia’s Lukas Lacko.
