Nigeria’s Consul General to South Africa, Godwin Adama, says the mission has extended consular services to Nigerians in Lesotho, Botswana and Malawi.
Adamu told the News Agency of Nigeria in Johannesburg, South Africa on Saturday that the mission had visited those countries to revalidate the passports of Nigerians there.
He added: “The mission had been to Lesotho, Botswana and Malawi with passport capturing machine to capture Nigerians, including their children and others that needed to change their passports.
“The aim was to assist them to renew their passports, make them save the cost of transport and other expenses of travelling from these countries to Johannesburg, South Africa.
“After processing the passports, the mission returned same to the people to these countries.”
Adama said Nigerians in some Southern African countries encounter challenges while travelling to Johannesburg to renew their passports.
“Some encounter problems with immigration officers because their passports have expired and we decided to intervene to make the renewal process easy,” he said.
The consul general said the mission had visited far Provinces in South Africa to provide such services to Nigerians too.
He added: “Our staff have been to Durban in KwaZulu Natal province, Cape Town in Western Cape Province, which are far places to attend to Nigerians.
“Also, any Nigerian that comes to the Consulate in Johannesburg for consular service, gets his passport the same day.
“The aim is to ensure that there is no delay in providing such service to our people.”
He added that the mission would continue to render such service to Nigerians in the Southern Africa zone regularly.
