The Independent National Electoral Commission has declared the incumbent, Dr. Olusegun Rahman Mimiko, as the winner of the Ondo State governorship election.
Mimiko, candidate of the Labour Party, won the election with 260,199 votes while Barrister Olusola Oke of the Peoples Democratic Party was second with 155,961 votes and Action Congress of Nigeria’s Barrister Rotimi Akeredolu third with 143,512 votes.
INEC’s Chief Returning Officer for the election, Prof. Biyi Daramola of the Federal University of Technology, declared Mimiko the winner on the basis of the results.
Mimiko had, before the arrival of results from Ese Odo and Odigbo Local Government Areas, won in 13 of the 15 local government areas declared as at 7am.
He also clinched Ese Odo Local Government Area.
With his emergence as the winner of the October 20, 2012 governorship election, Mimiko becomes the first person to win a re-election in the state.
It was a jinx the CAN vowed he would not be allowed to break.
