Some unidentified men have been spotted in a viral video dragging a rifle with two policemen in uniform for collecting the phone of one of them.
The spokesman, Lagos State Police Command, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed that the incident occurred in Lagos.
The young man, whose smartphone was taken, held tightly to the officer’s gun, while insisting on having his phone back at all cost.
It will be recalled that the Force Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, restated few weeks ago during an appearance on Channels Television Sunrise Daily that phones are personal property and the police don’t have the right to check.
Adejobi said: “Stop checking phones on the road.
“You can’t check somebody’s phone.
“It is his personal property.
“You cannot do it.”
Hundeyin, who confirmed the incident on his Twitter handle, said the two men have been taken into custody and would be charged to court on Monday (today).
He tweeted: The incident happened at Meiran.
“These two have been arrested and detained.
“I will provide further updates.
“They will be arraigned first thing Monday morning.
“This video will be tendered before the magistrate.
“For those interested in defending them in court, I shall provide details of the court.
“They will never be denied of defence.
“It’s their inalienable right.”
