About N22 million is allegedly missing in the account of the Nigeria Premier League Board.
The Eagle Online gathered from an impeccable source that a few hours after it was discovered that a top staff (names withheld) of the NPL had allegedly withdrawn N12million from the account, an in-house committee headed by board member, Mohammed Abdulazeez, also discovered another N9 million fraud.
Hours after an Abuja High court declared the board illegal, a total sum of N12 million was withdrawn from the board’s account.
It was gathered further that the signature of the Executive Secretary of the NPL, Tunji Babalola, was forged by the accused staff.
A source told The Eagle Online: “A lot of fraud is being committed here in NPL.
“Before now, a female staff was asked to pay a total sum of N1.8 million into the accounts of matches’ officials but kept the money only to fabricate a story that she was a victim of fraudsters.
“After some days, she returned the money. Now another N9 million has been discovered to be missing,”
In related development, owing to the lean purse of the NPL board, all matches earlier scheduled for midweek have been postponed.
The Eagle Online gathered that the NPL could not raise money to pay indemnities of match officials.
It is uncertain if matches will resume by weekend, according to our source.
