Peter Onichabor, the General Manager of Delta Tractor Hire Agency, said on Sunday that agriculture had received a boost in Delta State, with the State Government’s procurement of 46 new tractors.
Onichabor, who stated this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigerian in Ibusa in Delta State, noted that farmers in the state would no longer experience difficulties in cultivating their farms.
NAN recalls that the state government procured 46 new tractors last month and said that the measure was part of its effort to ensure food security in the state.
The general manager said before the procurement of the equipment, farmers in the state who had embraced mechanized farming were frustrated because majority of the agency’s tractors were non-functional.
Onichabor said the agency was now properly equipped and could hire out the new tools to farmers in order to boost food production in the state.
Onichabor said the agency had embarked on the training of tractor drivers and mechanics to handle the tractors in order to prolong their life span.
He added: “We thank God and the government for what has happened.
“It has long been expected.
“Before now, we have been working with old and dilapidated tractors.
“The morale of farmers, who had earlier embraced mechanised farming in the state, has now been boosted with the present development.”
