The Commissioner of Police in the Federal Capital Territory, Joseph Mbu, arrested a motorist using a Federal Government number plate on tinted glass car and without authorisation.
The FCT Police Command spokeswoman, DSP Altine Daniel, told newsmen on Thursday that Mbu arrested the suspect at about 6pm on Wednesday.
Daniel said that the commissioner arrested the suspect, who was driving a white Toyota Camry car with FG registration number, FG 429 D17, while he was on a routine patrol in the city centre.
She said: “Yesterday (Wednesday), at about 6pm August 6, the commissioner, while on routine patrol, arrested the suspect driving the Toyota Camry with a Federal Government number.
“He is not authorised to use the number because he is not a staff of the Federal Government, also the car has tinted glass and he had no permit.
“In crime prevention, the use of tinted glass vehicles is one thing that we have taken seriously.”
The spokeswoman said the suspect would be prosecuted and appealed to motorists with tinted glass that had not obtained the permit to do so.
The suspect, however, said one of his friends gave him the FG number plate and pleaded for forgiveness, pledging that he would get the permit for the use of tinted glass car immediately.
