A former Military Governor of Lagos State and a chieftain of All Progressives Congress in Adamawa State, retired Brigadier General Buba Marwa, has formally defected to Peoples Democratic Party with his teeming supporters.
The decision by Marwa to defect to the PDP followed a meeting held on Sunday with his supporters in Yola, the Adamawa State capital, after their complaint of being marginalised in the APC.
In his speech, Marwa accused APC’s national leadership of handing over the party in the state to Governor Murtala Nyako.
Marwa, who contested the last state governorship election with Nyako on the platform of the defunt Congress for Progressive Change, said his supporters were marginalised during the recent APC membership registration in the state.
He noted that as members of the legacy parties that formed the APC, he would not accept a situation where Nyako, who came from the PDP, would just take over the party from “the original founders in the state”.
Marwa said he would dialogue with the PDP so as to ensure their fair share in the party.
Others who spoke at the meeting shortly before the voice vote, insisted that they should leave for the PDP, their original party.
Marwa left the PDP for the defunct CPC in 2011 after the conduct of the PDP governorship primaries, which threw up Nyako to run for a second term.
