A 32-year-old man, Usman Abdullahi, on Wednesday pleaded guilty to launching an attack on his mother-in-law and her three-year-old daughter with a machete before an Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.
Abdullahi was arraigned for assault.
He, however, entered a “guilty plea”.
Summarily, the Chief Magistrate, A. Ipaye-Nwachukwu, directed that the accused should be kept behind bars in prison pending sentence.
Earlier, Police Inspector, Chinalu Uwadione, told the court that the accused committed the offence on March 22 at 6.00 p.m. at Kadara Street, Ebute Meta on Lagos Mainland.
He said Abdullahi used a matchete to cut Ladi Yakubu (his wife’s mother) and her three-year-old daughter (name withheld).
He said Abdullahi justified the attack on the woman and her baby because she claimed that he (the accused) was responsible for the death of his child.
The offence contravened Section 245 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The magistrate adjourned the case until May 31 for facts and sentence.
