A 25-year-old man, Wale Ede, has been arrested and is currently being held at the Criminal Investigation Department of the Ekiti State Police Command for allegedly beheading a 50-year-old man, Joshua Olaseinde Fagbola.
The victim was a father of seven and a Patrol Assistant with the Directorate of Road Traffic Service in Ado Ekiti, Ekiti State.
It was gathered that the incident happened at about 8pm on March 20 in Iro quarters of Iyin-Ekiti, Ekiti State.
Ede allegedly attacked Fagbola as the deceased was about to start the engine of his motorbike after attending the wake keep of a relative.
Our correspondent gathered that Ede suddenly brought out a very sharp cutlass from the umbrella he was holding and used it to attack Fagbola, first on his neck and then his face and other parts of his body.
The victim, drenched in blood, later gave up the ghost in the arms of his wife in a hospital in the area.
The Police Public Relations Office in Ekiti State, DSP Alberto Adeyemi, confirmed the incident.
It was reported that the deceased had on March 19 seized the suspect’s cell phone for failing to provide the blocks he had paid him for.
The suspect and the deceased then met at a wake keep on March 20 where the suspect allegedly cut the deceased to death with a cutlass.
Adeyemi said: “The suspect is being held at the state CID and we are still investigating the matter.”
