A 30-year-old man, Owolabi Sunday, has been arraigned before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court over alleged shop breaking and stealing.
Sunday, whose address was not given, is facing a two-count charge of shop breaking and stealing.
The prosecutor, Insp Moyosola Adesola, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on May 20 at about 00.25am at No. 30, Unesi St., Odo-Ado in Ado-Ekiti.
Adesola alleged that the defendant broke into the shop of the complainant, Kayode Faniki and stole an MTN recharge card valued at N2,000 and the sum of N8,000.
According to her, the offences contravene Sections 324 and 302 of the Criminal Laws of Ekiti State, 2021.
She urged the court to adjourn the case to enable her to study the case file and assemble her witnesses.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against him.
Counsel to the defendant, Mr Paul Ayantoyinbo, urged the court to grant his client bail with the promise that he would not jump bail.
Chief Magistrate Franca Olaiya granted the defendant bail in the sum of N20,000 with one surety in like sum.
Olaiya adjourned the case until June 26, for hearing.
