An unemployed man, Chimezie Ukaegbu, who allegedly stole iron rods valued at N2.8 million, Wednesday appeared before an Ejigbo Magistrates’ Court, Lagos State.
Ukaegbu, 39, is standing trial on a count charge of stealing.
The prosecutor, Insp Simon Njue, told the court that the defendant committed the offence sometime in February, at 8:00a.m on Royal Palm City Estate, Bucknor, Ejigbo, Lagos State.
According to Njue, the defendant stole iron rods belonging to the complainant, Mr Michael Nwokolo.
He said that the offence contravened Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Magistrate, Mr E. O. Ogunkanmi, granted him bail in the sum of N1 million with two sureties in like sum.
Ogunkanmi ordered that the sureties must be gainfully employed and show evidence of tax payment to Lagos State Government.
He adjourned the case until March 23 for mention.
