A 32-year- old man, Sunday Tetede, Friday appeared before an Abeokuta Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly defrauding a woman of N1.5 million.
Tetede, who resides at no 12 Oke-Ola in Ayetoro area of Ogun, is facing a two- count charge of fraud and stealing.
The prosecutor, Insp. Lawrence Olu-Balogun, told the court that the accused committed the offence sometime in Jan at No 3, Elizabeth Osho Street, Oke-Ibikun area in Abeokuta.
Olu-Balogun, alleged that the accused collected the sum of N1.5 million from the complainant, Mrs Omowunmi Bello, with pretence to supply 58 bags of rice to her.
He said the defendant collected the money from the complainant and that he would supply 58 bags of rice, but which he did not supply or refund the money.
He added that Tetede converted the said money to his personal use.
The prosecutor, said the offence contravened sections 419 and 390(9) of the Criminal Code Law of Ogun 2006
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
In her ruling, Chief Magistrate I.O Abudu granted the accused bail in the sum of N1 million with one surety in like sum.
Abudu ordered that the surety be registered as a bondsman with the state Judiciary.
She also adjourned the case until October.25 for hearing
