A man, Stephen Akerele, was arraigned before the Magistrate Court 3 situated in Epe area of Lagos State on a two-count charge for impersonating the Chairman, Board of Directors of Eko Electricity Distribution Company, Charles Momoh.
This was revealed in a statement by the General Manager, Corporate Communications of EKEDC, Godwin Idemudia, who described the act as unlawful, improper and deceitful.
Idemudia said: “The accused put a call through to one of our staff in charge of a customer’s area and claimed to be the Chairman, Board of Directors of our Company and directed him to reconnect an already disconnected customer.”
Akerele pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge and applied for bail.
The Magistrate, H.O. Amos, granted him bail in the sum of N50,000 and two sureties in like sum, gainfully employed in Lagos State with evidence of tax payment and verifiable house and office addresses, one who must be a relative.
The Court ordered that the accused be remanded pending the perfection of the conditions of bail.
Idemudia reiterated the Company’s commitment to ensuring that perpetrators of unlawful acts be brought to book and serve as deterrent to others.
He advised customers and the entire public to stay off acts that could put them in contravention of law and order.
