James Milner scored twice to help Manchester City come from behind to see off Sheffield Wednesday 2-1 at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday.
The Citizens found themselves a goal behind heading into the final 25 minutes, although the England international managed to level things up, before finding the net in the dying stages of the game to send City through to round four of the FA Cup.
With 14 minutes played, Atdhe Nuhiu stunned City with a strike from the edge of the box, which flew past Willy Cabellero.
That appeared to change the flow of the game as Wednesday began to see more of the ball.
A lively opening to the second period saw Claude Dielna take range from distance, although it was a straight-forward catch from the City stopper between the sticks.
The Citizens were beginning to grow frustrated as they struggled to break down a resilient Wednesday side, but they eventually found a way through on the 64-minute mark through Milner.
Substitute David Silva played a big part in the goal, working a fine cross into the box for his teammate to drill home and level things up for City, who were finding things far tougher than when these sides met earlier this season in a straightforward 7-0 victory for the hosts.
Milner almost doubled his personal tally for the afternoon shortly after when he latched onto Toure’s teasing pass, only for the ball to be taken from his stride by a covering visiting player.
Stuart Gray’s charges looked to have done enough to earn themselves a replay, yet up popped Milner once more in added time at the end of the game to tap the ball home on the line to send his side through to the next round.
