An Upper Area Court in Karu, FCT on Wednesday ordered one Emmanuel Odede of Phase 4, Nyanya Abuja, to be remanded in Keffi Prison for allegedly raping a five-year old girl.
The presiding judge, Alhaji Umar Kagarko, gave the order when Odede pleaded not guilty to the charge of rape.
Kagarko, who adjourned the case to February 26, 2014 for hearing, said the charge was a serious one for which the court could decide not to grant bail.
The prosecutor, Corporal Jerry Gingshak, had told the court that the victim’s relation, Stella Aidoghie, reported the matter at the Nyanyan Police Station on December 1.
Gingshak said the accused raped the five-year old girl who was left in the care of the complainant.
The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of Section 275 of the Penal Code.
