The Police on Wednesday arraigned a 40-year-old man, Monday Gansu, before a Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos, over alleged N990,000 fraud.
Gansu, of no fixed residential address, is facing a two-count charge of fraud and stealing.
The prosecutor, ASP Akpan Nko, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on March 15, 2020, at about 4.00 p.m. at Agbovipe, Ajara-Badagry area of Lagos.
Nko said that the defendant obtained N990,000 from the complainant, Michael Salako, to supply him poultry cages, pig and fish farming equipment, but failed to do so.
The prosecutor said that rather than supplying the items, the defendant converted the money to his personal use.
Nko said the offences contravened the provisions of sections 314 and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos, 2015.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Section 287 stipulates three years’ jail term for stealing.
The Chief Magistrate, Patrick Adekomaiya, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
Adekomaiya said the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and present evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
The chief magistrate adjourned the case until April 26, for mention.
