A 29-year-old man, Sunday Johnson, was on Friday arraigned before a Badagry Magistrate’s Court in Lagos State for impersonating a Naval officer.
Johnson, whose address is unknown, was arraigned on a one-count charge of impersonation.
He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The prosecutor, Inspector Ayodele Adeosun, told the court that the accused committed the offence on March 16, 2021 about 8:20pm along Owode-Apa, Badagry, Lagos.
The prosecutor alleged that the accused, being a civilian, impersonated a naval officer by putting on a complete Navy uniform with the intent to be taken to be a member of the Armed Forces of Nigeria.
He said the offence contravened Section 77 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos, 2015.
The Chief Magistrate, Lazarus Hotepo, granted the accused bail in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties in like sum.
He ordered that the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and be gainfully employed with evidence of tax payment to the Lagos government.
The chief magistrate adjourned the case until April 27 for further hearing.
