The police in Osogbo, Osun State on Wednesday arraigned a 26-year-old man, Ismaila Oladapo, before a Chief Magistrates’ Court for raping an 11-year-old girl.
Prosecutor, Wilson Meriti, told the court that the accused committed the offence on October 4 at about 6:30am at Idoji-Iresi, Igbajo in Boluwaduro Local Government Area of Osun State.
Meriti added that the accused, under the pretext of sending the girl on an errand, lured her into his room where he unlawfully and indecently assaulted and had carnal knowledge of her.
He said that the offence contravened Section 360 of the State Criminal Code 2003 and Section 31(1) and (2) of Child’s Right Law of Osun State 2007.
The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge and his counsel, Abimbola Ige, applied for his bail in the most liberal terms.
The Chief Magistrate, Olusola Aluko, granted the accused bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.
Aluko said that the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction, swear to affidavit of means and provide to the court, three years tax clearance certificate with two passport photographs.
The case was adjourned to November 25 for mention.
