The National Orientation Agency says the demise of elder statesman, Alhaji Yusuf Maitama Sule, the Dan Masanin Kano, has robbed the nation of a courageous voice against national disunity and failing national values.
In a condolence message to the family of the late patriot, the NOA Director General, Dr. Garba Abari, described the late Dan Masanin Kano as a scholar, humanist, statesman, patriot and a nationalist who, in both private and public life, stood for the unity, progress and development of the nation.
Abari said Sule’s virtues of integrity, sincerity, forthrightness and tolerance endeared him to Nigerians across social, ethnic, religious and political colorations.
In his words: “Having served as First Republic parliamentarian and Minister for Mines and Power as well as Nigeria’s former Permanent Representative to the United Nations among other national roles, his eloquence, articulation and courage in speaking truth to power marked him out as a revered elder statesman of note throughout his lifetime. Indeed, he was a father, a mentor, a hero and a pillar to many, both in the political and moral spheres.”
Abari noted the devotion of the Dan Masanin Kano to family and community as he spoke up for the poor and the downtrodden, adding that he used his oratory to propagate the humanity of love, peace and oneness in Nigeria at a time when many fanned the embers of disunity and disintegration.
He eulogized Maitama Sule’s inspirational contributions to efforts at building national values and driving national development, especially when he used the NOA platforms to propagate these values.
