French President, Emmanuel Macron, on Monday condemned the terrorist attack that hit a restaurant in the capital of Burkina Faso.
Authorities said 18 people were killed.
A group of armed men attacked a Turkish restaurant on Sunday evening in downtown Ouagadougou, the capital of the Western African country and wounded many.
Macron hailed in a statement the effective mobilisation of the Burkinabe authorities to put an end to the attack.
The French and Burkinabe authorities remained in close contact during the night.
The statement said: “Will meet during the day with its counterpart, President Roch Marc Christian Kabore, to assess the situation.
“Macron expresses his sympathy and solidarity with families of the victims.’’
The French Ministry of Foreign Affairs asked French residents in Burkina Faso and French, who pass by the country to avoid the region.
According to French media, one French man was killed in the attack.
It stated: “The President of the Republic said that France would remain engaged with the countries of the region to continue the fight against terrorist groups and speed up the establishment of the force of the G5 Sahel.”
