Ibukun Adebayo, the Head, International Business Development, London Stock Exchange Group, on Thursday said that Nigerian companies had the potential to prosper in the global capital market.
Adebayo made the remark at a press conference in Lagos.
He said that three Nigerian companies recently got listed on the London Stock Exchange due to their robust performance.
Adebayo said that since their listing on the LSE, the companies had made huge appreciation in their share prices.
He said: “Eland Oil and Gas, an indigenous company, which is in a joint venture with Elcrest, has recouped about 20 million pounds in its Initial Public Offer, the largest at the LSE in three years.
“Lek Oil also gained about $50 million at the end of May 2013 and an extra $20 million on IPO.”
He said that LSEG was currently working on modalities for partnerships with Nigerian commercial banks in order to finance local oil and gas companies.
Adebayo also said LSEG would collaborate with the Nigerian Stock Exchange to develop mutually beneficial relationship that would create wide range of opportunities for investors.
