Two prominent national dailies, Leadership and BusinessDay, have apologized to the management of the Dangote Group over alleged libelous advertorial published by the newspapers.
The newspapers, while claiming to hold Alhaji Aliko Dangote, the President and Chief Executive of the Dangote Industries Limited, in high esteem, regretted that the advertorial did not go through the necessary checks and approval procedure before it was published.
The apology, published in the two dailies, reads: “In our edition of March 14, 2016, we published an advertorial with the title “Acts of economic Sabotage by Dangote Cement. The transaction sponsored by Messrs Bua Nigeria Limited was undertaken by a staff without the necessary checks and approval processes we usually subject such materials before they are published.
“We have however since discovered that the content of the said material portrayed in bad light , the personality, image and business interests of Alhaji (Dr) Aliko Dangote, GCON whom we hold in very high esteem.
“In the circumstance therefore, we retract the entire publication and hereby tender our unreserved apology to Alhaji (Dr) Aliko Dangote, GCON and Messrs. Dangote Group. Our error is regretted.”
