The Body of Retired Heads of Local Government administration in Ogun on Wednesday sent a “Save Our Soul” message to Governor Dapo Abiodun over their eight years unpaid gratuities.
Kayode Ekundayo, the Social/Publicity Secretary of BORHOLGAS, said in a statement in Abeokuta that local government retirees were last paid their entitlements in August 2011.
Ekundayo said the group’s members were “ageing, ailing and dying” as they could not afford basic necessities due to lack of funds.
“While we are not unmindful of the general economic situation, BORHOLGAS passionately appeals to the governor to ensure consolidation of the monthly pension.
“We also appeal for the payment of gratuities to local government pensioners which are in arrears of eight years,’’ he said.
The body’s spokesperson commended the governor for the pace at which his administration was changing the face of the state, especially infrastructural improvement in public schools.
The group’s Chairman, Akintunde Shogbanmu, on his part, expressed the hope that the present administration would be compassionate to its members who had contributed to the development of the state.
Shogbanmu called on the people to support the present administration in order to move the state forward, saying the development of Ogun remains the collective responsibility of all.
