Ali Fawaz, a Lebanese-Nigerian businessman, on Sunday appealed to Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State for protection against land grabbers.
Land grabbers attacked his business premises in Benin on Saturday, leading to workers and residents of the area scampering to safety.
The workers were erecting a perimeter fence on a land on which Fawaz was planning to build lockup shops when the land grabbers struck.
The attack at Al-Hussein Nigeria Manufacturing Limited, located on Ogbomo Street, off Sapele Road at Etete Village, left two persons seriously injured.
Residents fled when the attack began for fear of getting hit by bullets.
Spokesman of the Edo State Police Command, SP Bello Kontongs, confirmed the report on Sunday and said two suspects had been arrested over the attack.
Fawaz also appealed to security agencies to curb the activities of hoodlums parading themselves as community leaders to unleash mayhem on people.
He said: “I am still in shock over what happened here as armed thugs demolished the blocks my workers erected where I had planned to make an additional gate and lock up of shops.
“They threatened to shoot anybody that attempts to stop them and also deal with me, calling me a foreigner.
“I have earlier reported the matter at the Etete New Police station as the leader of the land grabbers boasted that he is untouchable.
“I am a law-abiding citizen and have contributed my quota to the development of Edo.
“I’m a citizen of this country by naturalisation.
“I need protection against these deadly thugs.”
