The suspended Chairman of the House of Representatives ad hoc committee on the probe of the fuel subsidy regime, Hon. Farouk Lawan, who has been in police detention since Thursday, was eventually released on bail on Saturday.
Lawan, who was also stripped of his role as the chairman of the House Committee on Education, was released after his apssport was seized and with an instruction to report back to the police headquarters in Abuja on Monday.
The embattled Rep was quizzed for receiving a $620,000 bribe from the Chairman of Zenon Oil, one of the companies that came under the searchlight of the ad hoc committee on the fuel subsidy regime, Femi Otedola.
Otedola, who said his company did no wrong but was being blackmailed, reported the matter to security agencies.
Lawan was seen on a recorded video collecting the bribe money from Otedola in the businessman’s house in Abuja.
The Force Public Relations Officer, Frank Mba, confirmed the release on bail of Lawan.
