Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State has described the late businessman and Islamic icon, Sheik Isiyaka Rabi’u as an indisputable champion of Quranic scholarship.
Ganduje made the remark shortly after the funeral prayer at the Sheik Muhammad Rabi’u Juma’at mosque, Goron Dutse in Kano metropolis on Friday.
He said the late business mogul had used his wealth and influence to work for Islam at the most turbulent times.
According to him, the late Islamic scholar was a man of exceptional courage, ingenuity and gravitas who by dint of commitment, hardwork and sacrifice reached the pinnacle of excellence and great honour which will never be forgotten.
Also speaking, a renowned Islamic scholar in Kano, Sheikh Aminu Daurawa, said the entire muslim ummah had lost a man of exceptional treasure whose contribution to Islam cannot be quantified.
He said the demise of the late Islamic scholar had created an ‘unfathomable’ vacuum that would be difficult to fill now and in the near future.
In their seperate remarks, the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Saad Abubakar and the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi described the deceased as a great man who during his life time, contributed greatly to the development of Islamic scholarship and propagation.
NAN reports that wife of the President, Hajiya Aisha Buhari and that of the Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, in company of wives of other eminent personalities and top government officials were in the deceased residence to condole with the family.
They prayed God to grant the deceased eternal rest and the family the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
Late Sheikh Isyaku Rabi’u died on Tuesday at the age of 93 in a London hospital after a protracted illness.
He left behind four wives, 42 children and many grand children.
He had since been buried in his private residence at Goron Dutse in Kano metropolis.
