The Lagos State University says it has acquired two Toyota Hilux vans to enhance security operations on its campuses.
The institution’s Vice Chancellor, Prof. Olanrewaju Fagbohun, made the disclosure in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Monday in Lagos.
Fagbohun said the vans had been allocated to the security units in both Ojo and Epe campuses for security operations.
The vice chancellor, however, did not mention the cost of the vehicles.
Fagbohun said that the institution decided to beef up the security unit for better protection of the lives of its students, staff and the university community.
According to him, the management also issued letters of commendation and paid compensation to some security personnel for their outstanding performance.
Fagbohun commented: “This is our way of showing that we value the risk they take to protect lives and property in the university.”
The vice-chancellor also praised the university staff for their hardworking and commitment, urging them not to relent in their efforts at making the institution great.
Fagbohun said that the university authorities would continue to provide the needed facilities and support to every unit of the institution.
NAN reports that LASU had in May 2016 donated five motor bikes to the security unit in the two campuses.
