The lives of tenants at 24, Awoseyin Street, Shomolu, Lagos State are in danger and the tenants have raised the alarm over this.
The tenants raised the alarm following the storage and sale of Premium Motor Spirit in their premises.
A 33-year-old man, Adeola Tayo, the son of the landlord, is said to be the owner of the illegal home-based petrol depot he operates from one of his rooms in the building housing more than 20 people.
Despite the obvious danger the sale and distribution of the PMS poses, Tayo seems not to be bothered.
A visit to the house also shows that other businesses are flourishing in the area.
There is a bakery and also a woman selling kerosene in front of the building.
The tenants also alleged that Tayo has been carrying on with other dubious activities as he is said to have bribed the policemen at the Alade Police Station to look the other way.
A resident in the area, who requested anonymity, said: “I am living in fear every day and other tenants have refused to complain because they do not want to be sent out of the house. The situation is bad and nobody is safe, because there is fuel everywhere”
“There was a time that Tayo was reported to the police at Alade Police Station but we were sad that the police collected N27,000 from him and he has been working while the policemen come there to collect monthly and weekly tips from him.”
A printer in the area, John Odiah, also called for the quick intervention of the relevant authorities in order to prevent a major disaster .
Odiah said: “Do we wait until disaster happens before we take action? You need to see how people come here in drove to buy fuel from this man. The day it will happen, that is when they will say it is the handiwork if devil. The authorities like the police should stop the sale of fuel in the house so as to prevent a major disaster.”
Tayo declined speaking with The Eagle Online on the issue.
