Dan Manjang, the governor noted that recognizing the relevance of freedom of expression and free media in building inclusive knowledge, societies and democracies and fostering intercultural dialogue, peace and good governance is needed in the promotion of peaceful and egalitarian society.
The Governor acknowledged the specific risk faced by women journalists in the exercise of their work and underlining in this context the importance of taking a gender-sensitive approach when considering measure to address the state of journalists.
Lalong thumbed up the UN for proclaiming November 2 of every year the International Day to End Impunity for Crime Against Journalists.
