The Lagos State Government said it would resume the sale of Lake Rice at approved retail outlets across the state from August 24 ahead of the Eid-el-Kabir celebration.
The state’s Commissioner for Agriculture, Oluwatoyin Suarau, said this on Tuesday while reviewing the modalities for the distribution of the rice across the state.
Suarau said the sale would be part of the state government’s commitment to making food available to residents at affordable prices.
He said: “As part of its commitment to boost food security in the state, the Lagos State Government is set to commence another batch of sales of Lake Rice in preparation for the forthcoming Eid-el-Kabir celebration.
“The sales of rice have been scheduled to commence on Thursday 24th August 2017 in various centres across the state.
“The present administration will continue to ensure adequate production and a fair distribution of the rice across the state as it will be made available to the masses in the various accredited centers in the state.”
The last rice sale was during the Eld-el-fitri celebration in June.
Suarau said the distribution and sale would be done in the 57 Local Government and Local Council Development Areas of the state as well as the Agricultural Development Area Complex Oko-oba, Agege; the LTV Blue Roof Complex, Agidingbi, Ikeja; and other designated centers across the state.
According to him, the prices remain the same at N12,000 for a 50kg bag; N6,000 for the 25kg bag; while the 10kg bag would be sold for N2,500.
