The Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos State is to be closed partially to traffic for a little over four months.
According to notices placed on banners in strategic areas of the state, the closure is expected to lead to diversion of traffic and cause delays.
According to one of the banners at the CMS Bus Stop, the closure is expected to be between July 1 and November 6, 2012.
The development has created fears in residents of Lagos, who, despite the non closure of the 10 kilometre bridge, have had to contend with gridlocks, especially during the morning and evening rush hours.
When the bridge was closed partially for repairs last year, it was a story of woes for those who had businesses to transact on Lagos Island as the traffic was almost at a standstill most part of the day.
But the Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Raji Fashola, said on Tuesday that Lagosians have nothing to fear.
Fashola said the closure would be partial and adequate information provided to guide road users.
He said tha the state government would do its best to ensure that the partial closure does not affect the residents of the state in a harsh way.
Fashola, who spoke in Lagos on Tuesday, said all necessary human and material resources would be deployed for the purpose.
