The operatives of the Lagos State Task Force has nabbed a notorious traffic robber who pretended to be selling soft drinks and pure water to motorists at Oshodi bridge.
SP Olayinka Egbeyemi, the Chairman of the Task Force, disclosed that the traffic robber was apprehended by officers of the Agency positioned at Oshodi bridge to check criminal activities of traffic robbers.
Egbeyemi stated that the traffic robber was arrested after he had broken a driver’s side screen of a Toyota Corolla car with a hammer and snatched two phones and a bag containing valuables.
The Chairman stated further that immediately the suspect was arrested and every item stolen recovered, the owner was called on phone to pick up her bag and the two phones at the Task Force office in Bolade, Oshodi.
Egbeyemi, who commended Governor Akinwunmi Ambode for providing necessary modern security tools assured members of the public that the Agency will not relent in its efforts to completely rid Oshodi and the State as a whole of such unscrupulous elements.
He confirmed that the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Edgal Imohimi, has directed that the arrested traffic robber be charged to court for prosecution and other syndicates in this shady act should be arrested within Oshodi and its environs.
The arrested traffic robber, Oluwole Kayode, 27, who hails from Abeokuta in Ogun State, confessed to have been using hammer on motorists who refuse to voluntarily release their belongings during traffic at Oshodi bridge.
Kayode said: “Yes I used hammer to break her vehicle side screen because the woman refused to surrender her bag and two phones when I approached her during traffic when it was raining.”
The owner of the snatched bag and two phones, Hadizatul Jiddah, commended Imohimi for his efforts in ridding Lagos State of crime and State Task Force for the prompt action taken.
Jiddah said: “If not for the prompt interventions of personnel of the Lagos State Task Force, my bag and two phones would have gone.”
Meanwhile, Imohimi has directed the Agency to embark on strict operational enforcement on motorists flouting the Lagos State Road Traffic Law of 2012, thereby causing obstructions and plying one-way across the State
He said massive infrastructural development going on simultaneously across the State by the present administration cannot be justified as an excuse for flouting traffic regulations across the State.
He warned motorists, particularly around Pen Cinema, Agege, Dopemu, Ile Zik, Oshodi, Mile 2, Berger, Igando and Lasu-Iba Road to stop driving against traffic or causing obstructions to other road users.
