A 25-year-old returnee from Lagos State has tested positive to the Coronavirus Disease in Ebonyi State, bringing the number of confirmed infections in the State to three.
The case was announced by Governor David Umahi late on Friday in a Statewide broadcast.
The man, identified as Emeka Nwite, hails from Odomoke in Ebonyi Local Government Area of the State
According to the Governor, Nwite, who resides at Santana Area of Lagos State, sells telephone accessories at Ojo in Lagos.
He was said to have boarded a vehicle from Lagos to Benin, Edo State on Friday, from where he also boarded another vehicle to Asaba and thereafter to Onitsha before getting to Enugu.
The Governor further explained that the case was heading to Ogbala Ishieke from Enugu before he was apprehended by the COVID-19 Task Force in Ebonyi LGA.
He was sent for Laboratory Test and the result came out positive, while those of his four close contacts tested negative.
The patient, according to the Governor, has been taken to the isolation centre where he is being quarantined, while treatment has also commenced on him.
Umahi seized the opportunity to further stress the need for people to cover their mouths and noses with protective masks, as well as observe all other safety rules.
He charged security men at the state’s borders to strengthen surveillance against such defaulters of the lockdown.
