Lagos Lawyer and human rights activist, Chief Gabriel Giwa-Amu, has berated President Goodluck Jonathan for unilaterally fixing the pump price of petrol at N97.
The President of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), Abdulwaheed Omar, made the allegation that the President unilaterally fixed the price of petrol when he briefed the press on Monday.
While reacting to Jonathan’s nationwide broadcast on Monday, Giwa-Amu noted that though the President claimed to have gotten the approval of some governors and members of the National Assembly before arriving at the decision, the new price was outrageous.
According to him, Nigerians are now aware that their President is not only weak at formulating masses oriented policies but that he did not do any serious homework before embarking on the subsidy removal policy in the first instance.
“Let Mr. President know that henceforth, Nigerians have known that he is severely incapacitated in terms of putting forward other bold economic or political initiatives for the rest of his administration and that is the most unfortunate development the already traumatised Nigerians have to contend with,” Giwa-Amu said.
Speaking further, Giwa-Amu berated the President for his pronouncement and what he described as the arrogance in his voice, advising him to be ready for the internal wrangling that will follow whatever he is touting as the benefits that Nigerians stands to gain.
He added: “The rippling effect of these obnoxious policies will elicit astronomical rise in the cost of living and those on the margins of existence and others without any means of sustenance will feel the pain more and salaries of civil servant may be delayed as the executive and legislature will argue and battle over the 2012 budget, which will further affect the economy and all these cumulative abnormality will take a very long time to heal.”
