Team Ondo had earlier on Thursday won their first game against Team Bauchi, with Lagos having a better chance of joining them in the quarter-final stage with a draw or win against Team Bauchi.
Meanwhile, Team Ondo might be disqualified from the women Hockey after it was alleged that two of their players are not qualified to partake in the games.
The tournament Director, Hockey, Walter Imoedemhe, said it was brought to his notice that two players of Ondo are not qualified to play for the state and he has handed the case to the Secretary of the Hockey Federation to verify the allegation.
He said: “What was brought to my attention was issue of two players in Ondo State that their ID card does not belong to them.
“So I have instructed the secretary of the Federation to verify from the MOC and after the verification, we will take appropriate decision on the players concerned.
“It depends on the findings of the MOC.
“Sometimes these ID cards carry the names of the athletes and the photographs are wrong and sometimes the photograph is correct but names wrong.
“We need to be careful.
“I as a person know very well that all the states have spent a lot of money to bring their athletes here.
“It will be unfair to just take a drastic decision without proper investigation.”
The group stage of the women hockey games will be completed on Monday.
Team Kaduna will be squaring up against Team Anambra, Team Adamawa vs Team Oyo, Team Plateau and Team Imo, host state Team Lagos and Team Bauchi will be squaring up in the last match of the day.
