Local Government Council offices in Lagos State were shut down on Monday as workers began a three-day warning strike.
This was in compliance with the directive by the National Union of Local Government Employees.
The nationwide strike is in protest against the Senate’s vote against autonomy for local governments in the ongoing review of the 1999 Constitution by the National Assembly.
A NULGE official at the Itire Ikate Local Council Development Area said: “We received a communiqué from the national level directing us to embark on the strike.
“That is why we are not working today.
“The House of Representatives has listened to our yearnings.
“We are expecting the Senate to do the same.”
The official said activities will resume on Thursday as they await further directives from the national secretariat of NULGE.
