The Lagos State Government of Friday said it appreciated the plan by the Federal Government to take over the reconstruction of the Lagos-Badagry Expressway.
This was contained in a statement signed by Biola Fagunwa, the Director of Press in the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure.
The statement said: “We appreciate the interest that the Federal Government is now showing with respect to this infrastructure.
“This, we hope, marks a new lease of life in the Federal Government’s commitment and interest in its various responsibilities towards the people of the state.”
According to the statement, the step is the kind of partnership expected between the federal and state governments in bringing about the development of the state.
It pointed out that the challenge the state was having on the expressway in the area of funding and engineering was not unusual as it was peculiar to projects of such magnitude.
The state government urged the Federal Government to do a similar review of some its many projects facing serious challenges all over the nation for the sake of development.
The Minister of Works, Mike Onolomemen, had announced the Federal Government’s plans to reconstruct the expressway during a recent visit to Lagos.
Onolomemen said that Federal Government was intervening in view of the many challenges Lagos State was having in executing the 10-lane project.
