The Lagos State House of Assembly’s Committee on Housing has given contractors delaying completion of the Sangotedo Scheme April 29 deadline to deliver the project.
The contractors were directed to complete the Sangotedo housing project in Eti-Osa Local Government Area of the state and submit the keys on the set new date.
According to a statement by Adeola Salako, Director, Public Affairs, Lagos State Ministry of Housing, the deadline was given on Thursday in Lagos when the contractors appeared before the committee at the Assembly complex.
Salako said the contractors were summoned to the meeting after a joint inspection of the scheme by lawmakers and the Commissioner for Housing, Moruf Akinderu-Fatai, last weekend.
She quoted the Chairman of the Committee, Bisi Yusuf, as saying at the meeting that he was displeased at the delay in the delivery of the project.
She added that Yusuf queried some of the contractors for shoddy construction being executed.
“The need to reduce housing deficit is quite critical and any one serving as an obstacle should be brought to book,” Salako quoted Yusuf as saying.
According to Salako, Akinderu-Fatai is delighted at the stance of the committee as several meetings were held with the contractors to ensure compliance with standards and work plans.
“I am happy that the committee is assisting in putting pressure on the contractors as many of them have become a clog in the wheel of progress,” she quoted the commissioner as saying.
