The National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers, Petroleum Tankers Division has commiserated with the families of people that lost their lives in the fire incident occurred in Lagos on Thursday.
The position of the union was contained in a statement by its National Chairman, Otunba Salmon Akanni Oladiti.
The accident, which occurred on Michael Otedola bridge, was caused by an explosion from a fuel laden tanker, leading to the death of nine persons and burning of 54 vehicles.
Oladiti, who also commended the Federal Road Safety Corps for its roles in curbing such accidents, said: “This is a most unfortunate occurrence because in the recent past, such calamities have been avoided as members of the NUPENG/PTD have been collaborating with the FRSC and other law enforcement agencies in observing minimum safety standards on the highways and engaging in training and retraining of our members.
“All efforts will be put in place to ensure that this kind of disaster does not occur again on our roads. We sincerely mourn the dead and share the pains of affected families, the Lagos State Government and the entire people of Nigeria.”
