The President General of the Nigeria Football Supporters Club, Dr. Rafiu Ladipo, has warned fraudsters to desist from using his name to dupe fans globally.
Ladipo alleged on Sunday that the fraudsters have opened Facebook accounts with his name in Port-Harcourt, Lagos and Abuja, fraudulently telling some innocent people on the social media platform to pay some amount of money to him (Ladipo) to become members of the Nigerian Football Supporter’s Club.
He said there is no such plan by him or the supporters club.
Ladipo, who is also the President of the Nigerian Boxing Board of Control, said: “I am not on social media. I don’t have Facebook, Whatsapp or Instagram accounts, so I feel bad that some impostures are using my name to open fake accounts. I have spent over 42 years to build the supporters club and I cannot resort to extorting money through Facebook account.
“I don’t want anybody to tarnish my reputation of several years now. Those fraudsters must stop using my name for any dubious act or be ready to face the music.”
Ladipo also threatened to notify security personnel to keep a tab and arrest the unscrupulous fellows.
He said: “My warning to Nigerians and others is to desist from patronizing such fraudulent social media people. Our National Secretariat is located at No.12A, Ayinde Giwa Street, Surulere, Lagos and would-be members are advised to go there to be screened and confirmed by our genuine officials instead of paying money to quacks online.”
